 Jenny Thompson works with mothers and families in the Lafayette, LA area. I believe that with good education, supportive caregivers, personal motivation, a doula, and a healthy dose of normal, mothers and families can have births that are positive, free from fear, and beautiful. I believe that birth is a normal, physiological event and that women's bodies are designed to give birth without complication if birth is allowed to unfold naturally. |

Background: I was raised in Lafayette and moved to Baton Rouge to go to LSU where I obtained a BS in Environmental Management Systems. After working for the LA state government and teaching marine science in Florida, I moved to Seattle, WA where I obtained my Master's Degree in Marine Policy. Following school, my husband and I lived in Arlington, VA where we had our first son on July 25th, 2006 with the aid of a midwife at BirthCare, a free-standing birth center. Needless to say it was amazing! We moved back to Lafayette the following year and then had our second son on July 27, 2008 at Gentle Choices, another free-standing birth center. It was another amazing and very quick birth! I feel very blessed to have birthed with midwives, but I also realize that it is not for everyone. Although birthing out of the hospital has been proven safe for low-risk mothers and babies and has the same outcomes, I believe that women should feel supported in any birth setting and most importantly, feel safe in the environment they choose.
